12 hours of racing

I’ve never been what you would call a race fan, sure I’ve watched quite a few starts and finishes of the hugely popular iconic Australian Bathurst 1000 race, along with formula 1 etc, however, i have never been to one! So somewhere between being a complete racing photographer novice and seemingly non-race fan i agreed to spend 3 days in February in Bathurst in the middle of race track surrounded by race cars participating in a 12 hour race with a group of sundance race fanatics.

Yep i really wasn’t sure what i had got us into. But we packed up the camper and headed inland with the temperature rising the traffic building.

After 3 days of 36 degrees plus weather, very little shade, engines roaring and zipping by we actually had an awesome weekend, mostly thanks to the awesome sundance crew that as always make these trips just magic.

The crews were so great with pitt side access throughout practice session the day before the big race:

Even the Sunrise put in a decent effort to keep us entertained for the dawn start. This is cars warming their engines on the start line:
