Another Sundancer event saw us take to the waters off Newcastle aboard a local Whale watch boat in search of these magnificent ocean mammals (and hopefully for some of our mates very little swell!). We set off from the jetty located alongside the picturesque boardwalk that is Honeysuckle, a truly wonderful transformation of an area that is now home to many restaurants, bars and even a museum or two.
I really love our little city and the fact that we can enjoy the gorgeous harbour with so little trouble or effort – be it walking along, sitting alongside it sipping on a beer, watching the working coal ships and tugs go about their daily business, the local yacht club heading out for a regatta and even a few formula 1 and offshore powerboats roaring their engines and flying machines along the top of the water – and watching it drift by as headed out of the heads gives you just another reason to go yep this place is pretty sweet!
We spent the rest of the cruise cruising with these magnificent animals, wishing just a little bit that they would throw themselves out of the water and put on a bit of a performance for us 🙂 .. unfortunately it wasnt to be so we had to be satisfied with tails and fins, which is still pretty cool in my books. Im not sure what it is about them but no matter how many times you see them, or where you see them (or even how far away they are) everyone turns into a kid again cheering and whooping whenever they surface, its really pretty special.
