In 2012 i stepped out of what you might call my comfort zone and ventured into portrait photography more seriously then previously by completing a course at Imagine Studios located just outside of Newcastle. It was a ten week cours e that i cannot speak highly enough of and i thoroughly enjoyed it. I learnt so much more about lighting, aspect and posing – although the last one still has me in starter blocks, its really not something that comes naturally – might have to read more fashion mags or something 🙂
Of course learning is only ever the first step, one must put the theory into practice, which we did each week with Warren during the course, but Warren was always there, like a safety net – could i do it on my own. I really wasn’t sure. The Hunter region has a really fantastic group – Hunter Creative – that allows for photographers, Make-Up artists, Hair Stylists and Models to collaborate together and show off each others skills and talents.
Dean Phillips Photography kindly offered to let me be second shooter early in the year for a shoot he was doing with Make-Up Artist Abbey Sidorow, who this time was also being the model. Again having Dean there helping me out was another safety net but it was still quite nerve wracking. Both Abbey and Dean were so professional and kind to me i cant say how much i appreciated it.
After this experience i have been looking to do some more portrait work and was lucky enough to be able to work with Abbey again, this time for some shots for her Make-Up Business, working with the very beautiful Brianna Driver.
Here are a couple of shots from both shoots:
