An early start for our trip to Firenze (Florence), home to Dante, Machiavelli, Michelangelo and Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio’s creator. First a quick regional train to Italy’s Ventimiglia, then back to Milano, with enough time to get some lunch – tip if eating at a train station and 3/4 of the food is the same eat that because it will be good the rest will be disgusting .. even if you are sick of eating the same thing all the time!
It was then onto a fast train to Firenze for a late afternoon arrival, and some fun trying to find our accommodation – the directions were crap thank g_d we had the LP and that it had a decent map.
We checked in, checked our next lot of trains then headed out for dinner now armed with a proper if somewhat monstrous map and some dinner suggestions – we were after good pasta and risotto.
We found a lovely little place on the Piazza del Mercato Centrale, wandering through the market stalls along the way. We did get good pasta and risotto and for a reasonable price too. By the time we had finished eating it was freezing – no more balmy Mediterranean weather for us 🙁 We headed home for warmth, a shower and an early night.
